Admissions

When a prospective student requests an application to the program, he/she is sent a program description and The King’s Daughters’ Hospital School of Radiologic Technology application. The prospective student must complete the application form and send it, along with high school grade transcripts, college transcripts, ACT, SAT or SAT I scores and a non-refundable $25 application fee to the Admissions Committee at The King’s Daughters’ Hospital.

The Admission Committee consisting of the Administrative Director of the Radiology Department, the Program Director and the Clinical Instructor, will send written acknowledgment of receipt of the application and indicate which documents, if any, are missing. They also inform the student that no action will be taken on applications until after the application deadline of March 1st (3:00pm EST). Applications will be accepted after the deadline only if spaces are available.

Admission requirements

Each applicant for the program in Radiologic Technology must:

  1. Be a graduate of an accredited high school or have a GED certificate.
  2. Submit a completed King’s Daughters’ Hospital School of Radiologic Technology application no later than 3:00 pm EST March 1st, 2010. Original application only; no faxed or duplicated copies will be accepted.
  3. Submit three letters of references, preferably teachers, counselors, etc.
  4. Submit ACT or SAT (or SAT I) scores: original scores or those provided by High School original transcript only.
    • ACT composite scores of 17 or above in English, Math, and Natural Science OR
    • SAT or SAT I scores at 760 or above in combined verbal + math/or critical reading + math prior to April 14th, 2005. SAT or SAT I of 1200 after April 14th, 2005.
  5. Completion of 15 hours of college credit bearing general education courses (3 credit hour courses, listed below) with a minimum grade of “C” from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. The courses are listed below. Passing each prerequisite course with a minimum grade of “C” is also required for enrollment. Prerequisite courses must be completed prior to June 1, 2010 with updated transcript documenting grade due on or before this date for the selected student to be considered for enrollment.
  6. Submit a $25 non-refundable application fee: Make payable to KDHHS.
  7. Participate in a health occupations test, administered (dates TBA) at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital and Health Services; this test is scheduled within the 1st two weeks of March (call for the exact date).
  8. Attend an interview with the Admissions Committee, if requested.
  9. Must be at least 18 years of age by July 1 of the first year.
  10. Possess the physical ability to perform tasks required of radiographers, as written in the application.
  11. Career Observation Day in the Radiology Department prior to the March 1st deadline scheduled Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Call the Program to schedule this day. No walk-ins will be considered as the needs of the Radiology Department must always take priority.

Prequisite college courses

  • English Composition
  • Intermediate Algebra or above
  • Introduction to Computers
  • Fundamentals of Public Speaking OR Interpersonal Communication
  • Introduction to Psychology OR Introduction to Sociology

A required Health Occupations test is administered in March, before the selection process, in which all completed applicants will participate. An interview of selected applicants will be required to determine motivation, realistic orientation to the discipline, ability to work cooperatively with others, and to learn from supervised experiences.

The committee selects eight qualified students, six are offered admission to the class and two are selected as alternates in the event all of the six do not enter.

The Admissions Committee sends letters of acceptance to each successful applicant. In order to confirm their position in the class, the successful applicants will be required to:

  1. Send a letter in writing accepting their seat with a non-refundable tuition deposit of $100.
  2. The $100 deposit towards tuition, tuition at this time is $3,000 per year.
  3. Passing a pre-enrollment physical which must include verification of immunizations and dates (MMR (2), TB, and Hep-B, or waiver) and a drug screening. Passing a pre-enrollment physical and a negative drug test is required for enrollment. A drug test that reveals the illegal use of drugs will be deemed positive. The illegal use of drugs includes, but is not limited to, taking illegal drugs, taking a prescription drug without a prescription, or exceeding the dosage of over-the-counter medications.
  4. Passing each prerequisite course with a minimum grade of “C” is also required for enrollment. Prerequisite courses must be completed prior to June 1, 2010 with updated transcript documenting grade due on or before this date for the selected student to be considered for enrollment.
  5. Purchase three to five student uniforms, call Program for details.

Applicants who are not selected for admission to the program receive letters of explanation. All applicants who are not selected for admission may reapply for acceptance in the future. Prior acceptance or alternate status is no guarantee for future acceptance.

Following the deadline, all applications are reviewed by the Admissions Committee of the program. Those applicants that meet the published admissions standards are then evaluated in terms of academic potential.
